I’m a new tenure-track librarian in an academic library. My areas are government information, political science, and numeric data, but I do a tremendous amount of instruction, graduate student mentoring, and tech work.
Why am I creating this? Not because I believe I am an authority.
I’m creating it for a practical reason: I have convinced my library to enter the wild world of blogging and I need to know more about WordPress.
I’m creating it for an ethical reason: As a supervisor of LIS graduate students I make them create blogs to reflect on their development. I believe reflection is good because I’m a chronic journaler (yes, paper) and I’m engaged to an English PhD (they love the journaling). And yet, I have never blogged reflectively myself.
I’m creating it because I see some wonderful things happening and I want to write about them from my perspective. I believe a generation is starting to reinvent the library. We are making our voices heard through blogs, twitter, facebook, and our everyday interaction with colleagues. We are taking over and we aren’t letting go … be warned.
